Mathew M. Grigg
Matt Grigg has been a civil litigator for more than 8 years, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in all stages of the litigation. Representative cases include those involving wrongful death and other personal injury, medical and legal malpractice, toxic torts, police misconduct, property damage arising from landslides and flooding, invasion of privacy, defamation, elder abuse, breach of contract, class actions and civil rights.
Trial Experience
Mr. Grigg prevailed on both occasions he has served as lead trial counsel. He also has been a member of several successful trial teams, working on witness examination, trial-related motions and overall trial strategy. The trials included a challenge to the constitutionality of a municipal vehicle abatement ordinance and a multi-party case arising from a truck/auto accident. His additional trial experience includes cases involving medical malpractice, assault, inverse condemnation, nuisance and nursing license revocation.
Appellate Experience
Mr. Grigg has drafted and filed appellate briefs submitted to the California Courts of Appeal, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the United States Supreme Court in cases involving:
- a municipal ordinance pursuant to which an innocent spouse's interest in a vehicle was forfeited after her husband used it while soliciting a prostitute;
- a child who contracted an infectious disease due to his neighbors' prolonged open, storage of trash;
- flooding-related inverse condemnation arising from overflowing levees;
- an allegedly unconstitutional seizure of inoperable vehicles from private residential property;
- a prisoner's claim of deliberate indifference to an inguinal hernia; and
- a methadone clinic's ADA-based challenge to municipal legislation restricting its operation.

Mr. Grigg enjoys triathlons, chess, singing a cappella, hiking and basketball. When the 24-hour day expands to 25, he will allocate his extra hour to working on his novel and learning how to play the guitar.
